Beware of wandering animals that tend to stray onto the roads at any time, especially the highways. Generally the animals love to wander close to roadways during the evenings because of the warmth that emanates from the surfaces at sundown. The animals can be pretty hard to spot until it is too late, so some adjustment to speed around and after sundown is advisable.
Because of accidents and speeding, speed humps have been built near villages. The speed limit is less than 40kmph and even down to 20kmph at these points.
Pedestrian crossings can be found at almost every road junction, with two even placed on the Queen’s Road highway in the Nadroga area.
Parking meter wardens are vigilant with a parking ticket costing F$20 and more.
