Transport in Fiji
Updated: Monday, February 18, 2008
Okay, when it comes to transportation, you need to keep an open mind. This is a third world country after all - not Washington Boulevard!

There is just one word that haunts all drivers here - potholes! Every road in the country has them - some are littered with them. Fiji time also applies when it comes to schedules, which means that sometimes planes, boats and buses may not leave when they say they will (though heaven help you if you are late because the route conductor certainly won't).
So be on time if you're not in the driver's seat (but be prepared to wait if necessary). And if you're driving, be on the lookout for potholes, stray animals and people who believe their licences entitle them to own the road. And yes, these all provide good reason for why the speed limit is still 80kilometres per hour on the highway!
