If you are a citizen of a visa exempted country, you will not need to apply for a visa before arriving here (as those from the few countries not on the list have to).
What you can expect is to be granted a visitors visa that will be valid for fourteen days (14), with extensions granted for up to six (6) months (as long as your passport is valid, that is, as long as your passport will not expire until six (6) months after your extended stay in paradise). You will also need to show onward air tickets and sufficient funds to tide you over during your stay here.
For yachties proposing to join vessels here, officials will need to see confirmation of that (yes, on an official letterhead) from the captain or owner of the vessel you plan to leave Fiji on. You will also need to send a certified copy of your passport and proposed travel dates to Fiji Immigration beforehand.
For anyone planning on doing business in Fiji, such visas are granted for an initial two (2) week period. The Fiji Visitors Bureau or the Fiji High Commission or Consulate can provide details on procedure if your stay might exceed the two week limit.
For anyone born overseas to parents of Fiji citizenship, clearance from the Immigration Department is necessary. If you're planning to be on a one-way ticket to Fiji, you need to send the department a letter providing details of the request, a letter from your parents declaring the approval of travel, your birth certificate, itinerary and accommodation plans in Fiji.
Other than that, welcome to paradise! Welcome home!
