Nausori
Updated: Friday, April 25, 2008
Nausori is a bustling little town about 12 miles from the capital city, Suva. It hosts Fiji’s second international airport … well, at least some flights go as far as Sydney (well they used to anyway)!
Basically a rustic ‘cowboy’ town, Nausori boasts just four night clubs, catering for very different target markets.
On one hand you have the more upmarket KB’s which attracts a young, funky clientele and serves top shelf liquor and the latest contemporary urban & hip-hop music. Strangely enough a strict dress code applies. Then there’s Dolphins which is less formal but interesting, with a curious mix of local music and top 40 hits. The best thing about both of these venues? They are safe for any patron wishing to have a good night out in good old Nausori.
A far cry from the more sophisticated KB’s are Kings Nightclub and The Whistling Duck. These clubs are memorable in their own way and obviously serve as fun R&R joints for the gals & guys from the Rewa delta, but unless you’re a thrill-seeker or desperate for a beer, they are not recommended for out-of-towners and tourists (especially of the female variety). If you are willing to risk it, some self defence skills would be handy as things do get a wee bit rowdy as the evening progresses. Be prepared to duck as empty beer bottles go whizzing by. No prizes for guessing why one of these joints is named The Whistling Duck!
Ladies if you decide to venture into either of these spots, be prepared to dance, as regulars often do not take refusals kindly. But don’t fret because able security staff will be on hand to assist if required. Dress code: very informal, preferably sulu (sarong) and t-shirt with matching flip-flops. Check them out if you dare and all in all, you can be assured of an unforgettable experience!
