Night Life

Most of the nightclubs and pubs in the country are situated within the main business areas or within townships, therefore they're quite easy to access. Returning home is a different story as public transport cease operations just before midnight and in some towns even earlier. Cabs are a good choice for convenience, easy access, comfort and reliability. But cabs come with a hefty charge, especially after 10pm when an extra fee of a dollar is incurred as in the case of Suva. If you can afford it, great! Otherwise, there are always the mini-vans or dingys that lurk in corners waiting to pick up tired revellers. Be warned though, even these guys have limits to how late they will stay out and they generally only service their normal routes. Rare are the cabbies that willingly venture into the great unknown, the places that you will normally go to for an after-party…..the mountain-side, the sea-wall, the caves, the isolated beach, the vacant house down the street….all seemingly attractive in the day, but rather suss after dark.Food is not a problem on a night out in the cities. Restaurants are scattered in no organised fashion but finding one that opens late will be a challenge. When you do - and if you're hungry enough - you won't worry too much about the decor. Only a few sports clubs and nightspots have their own restaurants and these generally close way before the pubs themselves call it a night. There are heaps of BBQ vendors and hot dog stands available in both cities and towns within Fiji, and there really shouldn’t be any problem with finding food after hours. If its really ‘that’ bad, then maybe you should try squinting and fine tuning your ears………listen real well…….home calls!
