Music has always been regarded as a major source of entertainment, throughout the years, in Fiji and the Pacific, whether it be through live performances, group entertainment, disc jockey or the radio.

Music of the Fiji Islands has taken the evolutionary path that almost all indigenous music in the world have gone through over the centuries. That is, it has included and combined various styles and genres to produce the sounds of music that we hear today.

Several event organisers put together live concerts almost every year, bringing in world renowned artists and bands, that perform to what is commonly a huge arena, with hordes of music lovers from all over the country. There are local artists and bands, on the other hand, that perform occasionally at various locations throughout the year as part of their calendar of ‘gigs’, and these are often very popular with music enthusiasts. However, as with major artists of various musical genres all over the world, Fijian bands also produce and market their sounds, either individually or with the assistance of retailers. Local music is available on CD’s, audio tapes, DVD’s, MP3’s, MP4’s and even as mobile ring tones. Moreover, music, whether it be local or not, is very readily available at any music outlet in the country. And if there weren’t a pocket to provide for the purchase of these musical appliances, then the omnipresent radio waves, carry a continuous supply of musical hits that air 24 hours a day. That should keep you going for a while.
