Awarapan

Updated: Friday, April 25, 2008

Starring: Emraan Hashmi, Mrinalni Sharma. Ashutosh Rana

The name, the plot and the theme have nothing in common in this movie.

The opening scene makes out to be an art movie about people smuggling and the struggles of women sold into prostitution. But that’s all it is, an opening scene!!! The only other time you even get a glimpse of the fight against this crime is rrrrriiiiiiiiigggghhhhttt at the end, just before the credits roll.

Surprisingly Shivam (Emraan) does a pretty good job as a gun happy hunchman for badguy Mr. Malik(Ashutosh Rana). He shoots, beats and threatens as and when told. He's got demons in his past and they come back to haunt him when Malik gioves him a new assignment. Guarding his two-timing girlfriend and then feeding her to the fish in the deep blue sea.

But Shivam miraculously grows a conscience and a heart and defies his boss. Go figure…you’d have a better time watching “Man on Fire” withDenzel.

The movie can be summed up in about an hour, but the makers had the brilliant idea to put in endless songs and scenes of soul searching, flashbacks, the neighbour walking the dog and everything else one can imagine. All this, just to drag it to the traditional THREE hours!!! My gosh! 3 hours of nothing but crappy dialogues (there’s hardly a decent conversation in the whole movie).

The whole plot fails to address any social issue but is more about cinema (where it again fails)!!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars.
