Bourne Ultimatum
Updated: Friday, April 25, 2008
The Bourne Ultimatum is the third movie in the series of Robert Ludlum adaptations that follow one-time CIA hit man as he searches for his past.
I enjoyed reading the Bourne Identity, and the movie was equally thrilling. Jason Bourne is like a younger, less gadget-dependent and sex-obsessed James Bond.
If you enjoy espionage movies for the thrills and the chase around the world, then this is the flick for you. If you prefer a more intellectual movie, then perhaps you should just read the book.
You feel a bit of acceleration in this instalment. You’re dragged along with the amnesiac assassin as he gets closer to finding out who he really is and how he became Jason Bourne in the first place.
There really isn’t very much you can do with this. The clues are sparse and every time he gets closer to something, those brilliant (albeit deadly) “Assets” pop up and remove the source of the clue from the picture.
They spice up this instalment with some commentary about a certain CIA branch gaining unprecedented power to remove potential threats to the US government, even if they are American citizens.
There are also more crowd shots which freaks out any good agent concerned with civilian casualties and annoys less moralistic agents who think that the only things civilians do is get in the way of a good fight.
As movies go in general, this movie comes across as quite forced at times; while it flows quite freely in other segments. As an action movie, it hits all the right spots.
For this reason and this reason alone, Bourne Ultimatum gets three and a half stars out of five.
