Kula Eco Park
Updated: Monday, February 18, 2008
Kula Eco Park is an award-winning nature park that is also helping resurrect populations of endangered species in Fiji. In fact, it is Fiji's only wildlife park and is well worth a visit. Children especially enjoy it, right from when they first walk in to see snakes curled up in balls and insect skeletons in glass cases on the walls.
Here too, all visitors will be able to have Fiji's own unique creatures - the crested and banded iquanas - literally in their arms. The iquanas will even sit on your hair quite comfortably if you hold your breath for 30 seconds. Nah, just kidding - no breath holding necessary. The iquanas will happily crawl all over your arms, neck and head creating goose bumps along your skin as they go! Trust me, children, especially those of the male variety, love it!

There's lots of varieties of parrots and bats and even peacocks wandering the walkways (yes, they have right of way!). If you're energetic, you can walk along trails marked out in the park or take the rope bridge to the higher level and see species of plants in Fiji.

The park is situated along the Coral Coast just across the road from the Outrigger Reef Resort, which is about half an hour's drive from Sigatoka town and 2 hours from Suva in the east or Lautoka in the west.
It is nestled in a valley less than a kilometre from the ocean and its walkways follow the curves of a forest stream.
Tip: Because these are wild creatures, it's better to go in small groups or pairs along the walkway so as to not scare the creatures into hiding.
