Bukuya Alpine Eco Centre
Bukuya Alpine Eco Centre is located in the Nausori Highlands, on the main island of Viti Levu. But don’t let the name fool you .. there is no snow here! The Highlands are cooler than the sea level destinations of Fiji, but it retains a beautiful tropical climate.
Location
Access is by way of an unsealed road from Nadi, offering fantastic scenery along the way. En route, stop at Vatutoka – a high point that provides a spectacular, panoramic vista of Nadi, the encircling highlands and the offshore islands.
Accommodation
Budget accommodation at the Eco Centre, which is on a hilltop above the village of Bukuya. Homestay accommodation at the village itself can also be arranged.
Camping i welcomed to any people or groups. A piece of land at Koroivatia is a unique place for the camping site, peaceful and tranquil. On this spot, you have 180 deg view of all the Viti Levu land mass. Hear the birds from a sharp squeaking sound to a rolling thunder cry. Stare at great blue mountains - they will talk to you. See the hundreds of villages from many miles away at night plus magnificent sunrises and sunsets. Bring in your camping gear and food is provided.

A Visit to the great Navala village - Navala village consists of Fijian houses and a lifestyle of 1000 years ago that has survived to this day. See these people for yourself. Visit their houses. 1.00 pm – lunch at Tabuquto Village. Fresh water prawns and lovo foods. Taste some of the fresh food that we plant and other food that is sacred to us. 2.00 pm – visit Nacule Cave. NaculeCave consists of human remains from a war over Christianity. Many children and women were left forgotten inside. Depart from Tabuquto to Nadi at 3.30 p.m. Cost: FJ$125 per adult. (Half-price for children under 12 years).
Walk to Bukuya Village, Tabuquto Village and Lunch at Tabalei Village - This tour starts with a walk down the road from the Centre to Bukuya village, then goes on to Tabuquto village, followed by lunch at Tabalei Village. Visiting three important highland villages on foot is a great experience. Difference of lifestyle can be witnessed and the Fijian traditional background effect to the people. Meet theChief of the Magodro land and visit the “High House” of the land. 1.00 p.m. – lunch at Tabalei Village. Fresh fish and prawns from our streams. Roasted eels and lovo cooked food. See a meke of Fijian traditional costume that is still and only seen in the highland. Women wearing traditional garments and this will be accorded to tourist, which is our important guest. Dance with our traditional dancing tactics and enjoy Tabalei Village with its people. Depart 4.00 p.m. for Nadi. Reach Nadi at 5.30 p.m. Cost: FJ$125 per adult. Waterfall Trek - Depart a.m. This activity involves trekking to visit our great waterfall. Lolo Waterfall is the second largest that is in use today. Trekking to the waterfall is a fantastic experience. See our wildlife and see our native trees. Listen to many birds and see many historic sites along the way. Lunch will be provided. Depart at 3.30 pm for Nadi, arriving at Nadi at 5.00 p.m. Cost: FJ$80 per adult.
Eco-Adventure
Pig Hunting with Experts! (Adults only) - On this activity, learn how to use a spear. See the tactic used. Learn the signal and the use of wind directions. Use leaves as camouflaging. Hear many orders of hunt and the signal from the hunting dogs when the time to kill is at hand. And many more great experiences. Saddle and horse will be available to use at any time required. Lunch will be provided by the Centre and also will allow to roast your catch. Depart at 3.30 p.m.. Reach Nadi 5.00 p.m. Cost: FJ$125 per adult only.
Eel-Fishing - Hunt for fresh water eel in our mountain creeks. Hunt with experts. See their technique of the hunt. Experience when an “eel path” has been detected. Learn to use a killing spear. Learn a great experience in this tour. See why a Fijian is a great warrior. See cooking style of the fresh water eel. Lunch will be provided. Depart at 3.30 p.m. Reach Nadi 5.00 p.m. Cost: FJ$125 per adult. (Half-price for children under 12 years).
