Nasinu
Updated: Monday, February 18, 2008
Nasinu didn't start out with any intention of being a town. In fact, it wasn't incoporated into a town until 1999.
Located on the outskirts of the Capital City Suva, Nasinu is the nation's fastest growing town and second-largest most urbanised area.
The town council also has a big job to do for they have to cover a land area of 4,500 square kilometres. That makes Nasinu the largest municipal area in Fiji and more than twice the size of Suva.
It has several large industrial areas where many factories and packing plants are concentrated. But its biggest claim to fame is the fact that just about everyone in Fiji has to come to Nasinu at some stage in their life to see the Land Transport Authority. The many streets and off-shoots of suburbs surrounding the LTA make the area a good place to test new drivers - especially when they direct them straight into the fast lane on the adjacent highway.
