Fiji has three English-language daily newspapers; The Fiji Times, which is a subsidiary of News Corporation, and two other dailies.

The Fiji Times is the oldest, with its first publication dating back to September 4th, 1869. An online edition is published, featuring local news, sport and weather, but without any of the international features from the print version.

All three newspapers provide a variety of local, national and international news. Other newspapers published by Fiji Times are the the Hindi-language weekly Shanti Dut, the Fijian language weekly Nai Lalakai , the Sunday edition Sunday Times, and the region's first newspaper for teenagers, Kaila! 

Fiji has also seen growing competition in the area of magazine production over the past year. Titles published by several publishing houses this year include Living In Fiji, Fiji Living, Marama, Turaga, Teens and Mai Life. 

MAI Life is one of Fiji’s latest additions of print media with a pioneer publication of 5,000 copies in its first edition in June, 2007.

With abundant features that cover a wide cross section of each element of society, MAI Life has become, in its fairly young stage, a favourite amongst many ‘mag-worms’. Features covered by MAI Life Magazine revolve around Passion. You can get a copy of MAI Life at all major supermarket chains and retail outlets, bookshops and newsstands. Also hotels and airports, service stations and Post shops.

Radio

The two dominating radio companies in Fiji are the government-owned Fiji Broadcasting Commission (FBC) and Communications Fiji Limited which is privately owned.

FBC operates six radio networks – Radio Fiji One (Fijian), Radio Fiji Two (Hindustani), 98FM (Hindustani), Bula 100FM (English), Bula 102FM (Fijian) and 2DayFM (English).

Communications Fiji Limited offers five radio networks - FM 96 (English), LegendFM (English), Navtarang (Hindustani), Sargam (Hindustani) and Viti FM (Fijian). CFL is also host to BBCWS.

Both FM and AM bands are broadcast nationwide.

Other popular independent radio stations include two Christian radio stations  of the EBM Trust Board located in Suva which operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

There's also 888FM which broadcasts from the media centre at the University of the South Pacific, and Z-FM 101 Classics which is based in Lautoka City.

Television

In 1991, television was introduced in Fiji when the Fiji Government awarded a temporary license to TV New Zealand to enable the local people to watch the live coverage of the Rugby World Cup competition. The temporary licence was extended up until 1994 when the permanent service took over.

Fiji Television operates four channels. Fiji One is a free-to-air channel available all over Fiji (or so they say). It also has three pay channels: Sky Plus, Sky Entertainment and ESPN.

Its competition has come in the form of another pay television service that was set up a few years ago. The government has also recently granted another free-to-air television licence to a consortium that includes Australians.
